The principal objective of FIPFA is the management, development, and promotion of powerchair football across the world. In order to achieve this, FIPFA has a responsibility to be in charge of this sport at a competition level and to initiate promotional activities.
As a consequence of FIPFA has taken responsibility for establishing the principles concerning how the game should be played, as well as who should be playing. This formal classification system for levels of play is still under development.
